5. How is Food of Joy different from ordering restaurant takeout from UberEats or GrubHub?

First, while most restaurants have not implemented healthy eating guidelines, Food of Joy is health conscious. We make meals from scratch, ensure they have a high nutritional value, and vigilantly screen out chemicals that should not be in food. We also watch out for excess salt and sugar. Second, delivery companies charge a huge service fee. A $15 dinner can become $30 by the time it reaches your table. By contrast, Food of Joy provides FREE delivery on all orders.

6. Does your service require a subscription?

No subscription is required. You can order meals week by week when you need them. This is a big advantage for many people since they will never get meals they don’t want.

7. Can I choose my meals?

Yes! You can customize the meals to fit your lifestyle and dietary preferences. Choose different components of your meals and create endless varieties that your entire family can enjoy. Food of Joy is one of a few meal delivery services that offer customized meals. The menu rotates weekly. No matter what your preferences are, you can always find something you like.

8. What is your food like?

We want to make eating fun and healthy. We serve many different cuisines and dishes, all in a healthy way. We serve traditional dishes such as grilled chicken, beef stew, and grilled salmon. We also feature a variety of fusion dishes and plant-forward dishes. Our menu rotates weekly so you can enjoy different flavors.

According to research, almost 90% of Americans don’t eat enough vegetables. We include plenty of fresh vegetables, usually 3+ servings, in each meal.

You can select different components for your meals to meet your dietary preferences, such as vegan, low carb, low salt, no gluten, etc.

You don’t need to be home for the delivery. The ice packs will keep the meals cold for up to 6 hours. We will pick up the reusable coolers and ice packs on our next delivery trip. The coolers and ice packs are sanitized and reused to reduce environmental impact.

10. Can I pick up my food instead of having it delivered?

Yes. You can also pick up your food at our kitchen at 6475 Alvarado Road, Suite 101, San Diego, CA 92120 on Sundays between 3 PM – 4 PM, Mondays between 4 PM – 5 PM, or Wednesdays from 11 AM – 1 PM.

Due to the lack of space, we will not be able to hold your meals if you cannot pick them up. If you have an emergency, please text us at 619-630-8580.

11. How soon do I need to eat the food after it’s delivered?

For your safety, chilled meals should be kept below 40 F. The ice packs will keep the meals cold for up to 6 hours. When you open the cooler, if the ice packs have not melted yet, the meals are safe for consumption. Please put the meals in the fridge as soon as you open the cooler. Although meals may be kept in the fridge for up to 5 days. For best result, eat the meals in 2-3 days.

12. How to warm up the meals?

To warm up the meals, heat them in the microwave for 3-5 minutes. The fiber meal container is microwave safe. Make sure not to overcook the veggies. Meals can also be warmed up on the stovetop in a pan.

13. Could you tell me more about the healthy aspects of your meals?

We believe healthy food should be clean food. It should not contain harmful chemicals such as preservatives, food coloring, artificial flavor enhancers, etc. These chemicals can alter the microbiome in your digestive tract and wreak havoc on your body. We vigilantly screen out any harmful chemicals from our food ingredients. We don’t use any artificial preservatives, food coloring, or flavor enhancers in our cooking. We make most of our food from scratch using raw ingredients. Many of them are organic. We scrutinize each label to make sure they don’t contain any harmful chemicals.

We pay attention to the amount of sugar and salt in the food. Sugar and salt are the two most overused ingredients in food. Excess sugar, especially added sugar, can raise blood sugar levels and lead to diabetes. Excess salt is linked to hypertension and heart disease. The amount of sugar and salt is included in the nutrition facts for the meals. A low salt option is usually available for the dish.

We include plenty of various fresh vegetables. Health experts recommend eating at least 5 servings of vegetables and fruits every day. But only about 10% of Americans reach that goal. Vegetables are our main source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Not eating enough vegetables has profound negative health impacts. We include 3+ servings of fresh vegetables in all meals. We also rotate the variety weekly so you can get a broad spectrum of micronutrients.

We use mostly whole grain in our meals. Refined grains, such as white pasta and rice, can quickly raise your blood sugar level and contribute to diabetes and weight gain. Whole grains contain more fiber and more protein. They help you control blood sugar levels.

We serve various lean protein and plant-based protein and watch the fat content of the meals. Saturated fat is a major contributor to heart disease. Fat, no matter what form, contains high calories and can derail people’s weight management goals. However, fat-free meals are not necessarily healthy either. Without an adequate amount of fat, fat soluble nutrients cannot be properly absorbed by the body. Lean animal protein and plant-based protein give you an adequate supply of protein but with less fat and cholesterol.

14. I have food allergies. Can you accommodate my dietary restrictions?

Our kitchen processes all commonly used ingredients that may cause problems for people with severe allergies. If you have food allergies, please call or text us at 619-630-8580 to find out if we can accommodate your dietary restrictions.
